Do you train hard? Do you have a meal plan that is dedicated to enhance muscle growth?  Are you frustrated that with all of your hard work and strict diet you still aren’t seeing the Muscle Growth that you hope for?

Almost every Bodybuilder or Fitness enthusiast has at some point been frustrated with their lack of Muscle Growth.  Did you ever think that no matter how hard you train and diet your lack of Muscle Growth may not be something that you can control?

Over the last several years researchers have been studying why some Bodybuilders can build pounds of Muscle Mass, even without the use of PED’s, yet others struggle to gain a few pounds per year.  What researchers have found is that there is a protein inside of us that inhibits us from building muscle.  This protein is called Myostatin.

Myostatin is primarily produced inside of skeletal muscle cells.  It then circulates in the blood and acts on muscle tissue.  In these studies animals lacking Myostatin, or animals treated with substances that block the activities of Mystatin have significantly larger muscles.  Mutations in both copies of the human myostatin gene results in individuals that have significantly more muscle mass and hence are considerably stronger than normal.  Blocking the activity of myostatin may have therapeutic application in treating muscle wasting diseases such as muscular dystrophy.

If you have the desire to pack on pounds of Muscle Mass you may want to read on!  Myostatin is active in muscles used for movement (skeletal muscles) both before and after birth. It normally restrains muscle growth, ensuring that muscles do not grow too large. Mutations that reduce the production of functional myostatin lead to an overgrowth of muscle tissue. Myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy has a pattern of inheritance known as incomplete autosomal dominance. People with a mutation in both copies of the MSTN gene in each cell (homozygotes) have significantly increased muscle mass and strength. People with a mutation in one copy of the MSTN gene in each cell (heterozygotes) also have increased muscle bulk, but to a lesser degree.

So how can you inhibit Myostatin in order to gain Muscle?  There are several products on the market that say they inhibit Myostatin.  But remember that this research is at the infancy stage and has only been conducted over the last few years.  Myostatin is a topic of enormous interest to bodybuilders, since, theoretically, if you can somehow block its effects, your muscles will grow very rapidly. It is believed that weight training is an effective myostatin blocker, which accounts for some of the growth that comes from regular training. In animals, blocking myostatin activity or manipulating their genes so that they don’t produce myostatin yields not only increased muscular growth but also a dramatic reduction in bodyfat. The theory is that the lack of myostatin produces a repartitioning effect, promoting muscle growth at the expense of bodyfat. In short, bodyfat is used as a source of energy to support muscle growth. In other words, a bodybuilder using Myostatin inhibitors potentially gains the best of two worlds: Larger muscles and lower levels of bodyfat.

It goes without mention that there are bound to be some side effects to such fast muscle growth and strength gains.  One that has been looked at is how this will affect the tendons and ligaments.
